Judi Dench as Sally Bowles in Cabaret

Yes, that Judi Dench...from the original London production of Cabaret in 1968...keep in mind, the character of Sally Bowles from the original stories was supposed to be woefully untalented (this was changed for the Liza Minnelli film version) and this particular song was not included in the film, instead, the song "Mein Heir" more or less took it's place in the storyline...sorry some of the audio konks out in parts

Is this way before Bob Fosse got hold of it? Is this the original score, which I have assumed is Kander and Ebb? In Noel Cowards diaries he wrote he saw this on Broadway and it was superb, it makes me wonder how similar and different it was to this. thanks.

Yes, this was several years before the film and was based on the Broadway version which was quite different in storyline and style from the Bob Fosse movie

Dame Judi just did that same production not too long ago. Still sings the same in that deep sexy throaty voice. Check out her solo in Nine on the stage. It is her at her age on top of the piano. They begged her to do it.

Apparently people at the stage door regularly thanked Judi Dench for going on even though she had laryngitis! Not realising that that was her normal singing voice
