Brian Fallon from the Gaslight Anthem (look them up if you haven't already, one of the best bands ever) and his old band Brian Fallon & Cincinnati Rail Tie. I can't find the lyrics to this one so if you stumble across them, send them to me!

lyrics: (thank you to Otherien for sending me these!)
Don't you put out a casket
You ain't dying today
But take the rings off your fingers
If you take the south train
Don't burn the matches
You'll want to stay alive
It's real cold where you're going

And its freezing on the pavement as I'm weaving through the streets
I've been long since out of high school so I got nowhere to be
I could never handle college so I grind my knuckles down
I got to make these six strings sing babe

Well it's a long dark road and there are landmines that explode
Under many of the steps that you take
But who am I to sit here, blessed but distressed
I should be screaming out baby I'm alive
'cause I've come this far and I've got this many scars
So I cannot stop trying now
No I can't, I cannot stop trying now

So put your foot to the pedal
You're lagging behind
Jumped straight off the short peer
And never saw a line
And everything's a dead line
When you're trying to find some sleep
What I wouldn't give to close my eyes

And it's cold in the windows
So you move to the doors
And you live off the ceiling
When you're bored of the floors
And you passed off the problem
To get some cash to put down
Well I hope the money comes in someday

And it's a long dark road and there are landmines that explode
Under many of the steps that you take
But who am I to sit here, blessed but distressed
I should be screaming out baby I'm alive
'cause I've come this far and I've got this many scars
So I cannot stop trying now
No I can't, I can't stop now

And it's a long dark road and there are landmines that explode

Under many of the steps that you take

But who am I to sit here, blessed but distressed

I should be screaming out baby I'm alive

'cause I've come this far and I've got this many scars

So I cannot stop trying now

No I can't, I can't, no no....

  • holy damn. this blows my mind, it's so gooood.

  • looks like hes been a genius even before tga! ;)

  • Woahh Brian's voice sounds sooo much younger!

  • Brian's old guitar teacher, Tim Fogerty, played guitar, incl. a solo, on two tracks, and Brian's mother sang backups. Brian did everything else. He got some good feedback on the EP and then formed a band after the fact. They only played together for a little while, and the people that played live didn't play on the EP

  • For anyone interested, here's some info I found about this album on a fan site.(split into a few parts because of the character limit).

"Apparently Brian decided to record a 'solo' EP, but wanted it to still have a band look/feel to it. He called in a friend of his from Lanemeyer to play drums, while another friend of his, Mike Hemberger, played bass, sang backups and produced the EP, which was to be called "The American Music EP".

  • Love this song, have had it in my library the past few months.

I think the first line is "pull your foot out of the casket"

  • Oh man! I'm a huge Gaslight and Brian Fallon fan, and I just stumbled across these. I'd never heard them before so thanks oodles for posting them! X)
