In a workshop session with Yonkers Public School teachers, Artist and Director of the OSilas Gallery Patricia Miranda, explains how art supplies can be produced from natural materials such as stones, bugs and flowers. Recipes and techniques that have been practices by many cultures for hundreds, or thousands, of years were demonstrated and utilized in the process of extracting color from substances such as malachite, cochineal bugs and saffron and using oak gall ink from wasp nests to create works of art.
