I thought the power went out. As I was walking to the breaker room my boyfriend called and asked if I have any lights. Thats when I knew it was a blackout. Made some money selling candles as well and bonded with friends it was the one of the better times I had. I LOVE NY!!! the best city in the world nothing can stop us.

i was on a subway with my friends when the blackout occured. good thing the train had a battery and the lights stayed on. firefighters had to come and rescue us underground.

i was there at kennedy airport that night. i was hungry ,no food ,no drink because of the emergency electric power were for emergnecy use only. the food vendering machine is beeping all night. i blame the airline company which told me the flight was not affected but it was cancelled eventually.

@Enriquelio true, it must be the hippies, they walked home
I was home and the sound was like when the air plane turns off the jets, or when refrigerator powers down, but a 100 times louder. I had only 1 pair of batteries for my radio. The next day had to walk 1 mile to find a store with batteries which was dangerous without traffic lights and cars fighting. My husband was working in NJ since no trains, so he had to sleep at a friends house. So I had to be alone in the dark for 2 days.

God that sucked trying to sleep w/o even a fan!! Work nights normally aren't drinking nights but Jack Daniel's got busted out that night. LOL

Fun? Not really. I was 13. Lived on the 11th floor. The elevators were stuck. Couldn't go outside or do anything. Ass was stuck in the hot ass house w/o tv while my neighbors sat in the hallway eating icecream. At night I was so scared that i had to sleep in my moms room that night because it was dark. Not fun at all.

It actually was quite an experience. It was just too damn hot that day. Even when I had the chance to shower right before my building's water source went out, I still felt stinky due to the heat. The only light source I had when showering was one of those battery-powerd flourescent lights that you stick to the wall.
The blackout is very special to me. It was night I met my husband. We were living in the same east village apartment and hadn't met til that night...on the roof of our apartment building. We got married May 26, 2007... on a Manhattan roof!
