On Feb 14, 1990 NASA, by request of Carl Sagan, commanded the Voyager 1 spacecraft, having completed its primary mission and now leaving the solar system, to turn its camera around and to take a photograph of Earth... 4 billion miles away. In this image, Earth shows up as merely a "pale blue dot" seemingly drifting in a sunbeam (the first image in the video). The Earth is only 0.12 pixels wide in the original version of this image. The words being read are Carl Sagan's reflections on this image.

  • No, I don't think I'm better than Carl. Mr. Sagan was a great man and a seriously inspirational speaker. This is a tribute. His version inspired me to the point that I wanted to say those words for myself.

How is it that just because I've made a tribute video that you, in any way, would interpret that as me thinking that I sound better than him?

  • Wow, you hated it so much that you had to comment so negatively TWICE! Nice job posting this comment to the actual Sagan version by the way, well done! I think you're missing out on Sagan's message entirely. How is it so wrong to read these inspirational words? If you don't like it, don't listen.

  • Thanks jerk! Your non-constructive criticism has really helped the world.

  • I love the Pale Blue Dot concept, it's so utterly important. I'm an atheist but I attended church with my wife the other day and the pastor preached a sermon based on this photo. Unfortunately, he twisted it to stress how singularly important we are to the Christian God, that we are so small but so infinitely important to the Christian deity, and that we should give more money to the church accordingly. I nearly vomitted.

  • All of the negative posts are about the fact that he is copying it. None of us disagree with what Sagan is saying. In fact, the reason that most of us most likely came to this video was because we thought it was another version of Carl Sagan. Only to be hit with this crap. And we're not missing the point. Everyone who thinks that this is terrible are the ones who understand what Sagan is trying to say, and that remaking it is ridiculous. And "DonFlamingo1990" was talking about irrelevant things.

  • You sound TERRIBLE. Who do you think you are to re-speak Carl Sagan's words. You're monotone, and you make me not want to listen to the actual video of Carl Sagan. That's saying a lot because I love his videos. You are terrible.

  • @Chastrie: uh NO! There was nothing wrong with the original version with Sagan's voice on it and copies of it are all over YouTube. Why would I want to hear some other guy's voice? So that I can praise him for his ability to read? Seriously...

    This is idiotic.

  • Good job!!! Nice tribute.

  • Your voice is lovely. I thought this was great!

  • I think his voice is nice.

These wonderful words are inspiring us to be as one, to be kinder and to love one another, the earth and all we share it with, it doesn't matter who speaks them, in what language, what matters is they are being said and understood. You are making nasty comments over who's voice sounds better?...I think you have missed the point completely.

  • Greyhaven7: You have the right idea about what you have done here. The ones who have commented negatively have totally missed it. I would like to think that Carl would be pleased. He would want our species to continue to be inspired by his thoughts and he would challenge us today to continue on, and not to fear questioning things that we were brought up to believe...

  • If they'd teach this in every corner of the planet, it would make earth a better place to die on.

  • Interesting upload. I think that negative criticism is not necesary in this vid and other. We need constructive criticism and Sagan probably agree with this. You should don't to care about stupid people and made succeeding videos. Take care.
