As a band director, this is one of (in my opinion) 4 pieces that ALL band students should play at some point. The others include both Holst suites and the English Folk Song Suite.

This is what i love about Grainger, where he pulls this stuff from. Like the start of Lincolnshire is completely different to how it ends at 1:06 - yet somehow it all makes sense, wow.

nice!!! i just played this same arrangement in highschool. Even without the 3rd and 5th movements it is an amazing piece
-
and excellent song fort Collins high school is playing this piece of music the baritone part that im playing is hard but so worth it
-
@RRPiccolo most bands dont play the 3rd movement because it is just too hard to play beautifully so most bands just skip it. Especially version A with the high piccolo and soprano clarinet solo.
-
@aelon1 I agree. Problem is that this piece is much harder than the 3 that you just listed.

Wow! Nailed the woodwind sextuplets in The Brisk Young Sailor. As a studend, I have to say that the second movement of this is the greatest conducting experience with my high school class I have had thus far.
May I ask why you might have skipped the third movement? Was it due to lack of instrumentation?

@lukachoo It wasn't my call what or wasn't included...it was the conductor's choice and I don't know what his reasoning was behind his selections. There were many other songs performed at this concert, so it might have been due to time constraints. I just recorded the performance.

@davidverchick Sometimes people are just oblivious, or they don't care. He could have gone behind me, but apparently chose not to.

I was in a drum and bugle corps this summer (the Blue Stars - involved in an organization called DCI) and I still always appreciate concert band music, our college wind ensemble is playing this piece, thought I'd look it up, Fantastic =)

@chaosdude14 That's great, I love DCI! Wished I could have been in one myself, but I play the wrong instrument. :)
