This is one of those old Dustbuster vacuums from the 80s that ive modified to run on 12 volts DC. it originally ran on 3.6 volt NiCad batteries mounted in the middle where the dust cup attaches to but ive removed them and added a beefy 12 volt car Cigarette lighter cord it runs pretty fast but it runs better than it ever did, this unit draws lots of amps as you will see it trips the overload on the jumpstart b/c the vacuum draws more than 12 amps so if you use it in a car it might blow your cigarette lighter fuse so make sure your plug can handle a lot of juice. Also in this video is my brand new Duracell 300 Car Jumpstart Box this thing is sweet it has 2 AC outlets rated at 300 watts an 12v DC port max 12 amps, a built in removable rechargeable flashlight and an air compressor with pressure gauge and tips for inflating sports balls. It charges via AC wall power or with a 12VDC car adapter. I got the vacuum from a friend who was throwing it out, the Cord from Walmart and the jumpstart box at BJ's club, it was on sale for $49.99 originally $69.99. I hope you like this vid and if you have any questions about these items please leave them in the comments, Thanks for watching.

  • The Dustbuster Plus (the coffee brown colored unit), introduced in 1982, had a 4.8-volt (4 cell) battery as opposed to the original Dustbuster's 3.6-volt (3 cell) battery.

  • @ClassicTVMan1981X

This one is a 3.6 volt 3 cell model. The batteries are located inside the brown part that has the fan hole.

  • @coondogtheman1234

Exactly. I wonder if you would ever want to find an original 9333 Dustbuster Plus?

  • @ClassicTVMan1981X

If it worked then maybe. But I have this one.

  • then min on a fuse in a car is 15 amps

I'm assuming that if the cig lighter port can power up the heater thing that you push in and it pops out then you use it to light your cig I figure if it runs that it can run my vacuum.

I know. And regarding my last suggestion, Sears sold the same model in the mid 1980s as the "Cordless Vac Plus."

  • @ClassicTVMan1981X

I had no choice, the original batteries were long deteriorated and the contacts corroded so I modified it to run on 12 volts.

  • @coondogtheman1234

Except, you can't use the Dustbuster standalone because of how you modified/hacked it to run on 12V power.

Probably wont be anytime soon, If you mean use it with the original battery and charger then no. This is the way it's staying. I threw out the charger b/c the power adaptor was burned out but I think I kept the wires. It works loads better this way now that I have a smaller and more powerful jumpstarter with NO LIMIT on the power port. I tried a 12V heater and it worked great on it.
