I haven't done it this way before - I've only held my finger under the flower of a feeder to get them to land on it. Looks like they're pretty versatile little birds and will make do with whatever landscaping is provided! :-)

I've only tried this in the fall, when they're migrating through, and pretty frantic for food. But it wasn't difficult to get them to come to my hand. And it's fun!

They certainly are brave little birds. Probably the most important thing is holding as still as you can. They get used to you more quickly and get right to feeding! :-)

Hey I fed a Humming Bird today it was stunned so we helped it back to health and named him Squirt and we feel very good about ourselves

My husband became a C5 quadraplegic on 11-11-09 and befor he was totally parlyzed he never had time for the softer side of life. I started puttng his power wheelchair in our living room where he could watch hummers eat from my feeder on our deck and after seeing these vids I now take him in his wheelchair on to the deck and put a small bowl of nector on his wheelchair table and he now watches them come right to him to eat . It gives him hours of enjoyment. in his otherwise boring life.

Bees don't bother me. I love observing them at work. Those little humming birds were so sweet. I have got to feed them this way sometime!
