USS Guam visit Hamburg March 1983
The Carrier leave the harbor
The US S GUAM made a port visit at Portsmouth, England, before sailing to Sorresia, Norway, for off-loading on 24 February. I-EVB4-365 was shore based at Cardufoss Airfield, Norway, until 9 March at which time the quadron backloaded aboard the USS GUAM to participate in Exercise COLD WINTER 83 from 10 - 17 March.
Before returning to CONUS the Squadron enjoyed liberty call at Hamburg, Germany

This was my first trip across the pond, I was with the aimd side of the marine helicopter squadron. Germany was a great stop, I think, I dont remember a lot about it other than we had a great time on, I believe it was called Reperbaun Street or something like that. If you were really on this cruise you will remember this. My biggest problem with the Guam was the fact that i went 2 weeks without a shower because they wouldn't work.....no hot water.

That was an awesome experiance cruising up and down the river....and we thought the fiords were narrow.

@trsidn All right, that works too. What about the Tarawa class LHA or wasp class LHD? Helo carriers too?

Thanks for showing this on You tube, I was aboard the Guam for this cruise.
Brings back great memories, Hamburg was terrific!

I remember the storm, a lot of sick Marines on that one. If I remember right one of the LST's lost one of the Bow Hatches and had to go hide in the Fjords.

@dwodno I got onto Guam just after Gitmo and was on her till March 84 attached to R division as a Hull maint. tech. I too remember this time in hamburg and is sure was fun, HT 3 R. Conklin.
