"Holocaust" (1978) mini-series. Directed by Marvin Chomsky. With James Woods, Meryl Streep and Michael Moriarty.

Holocaust follows the tragedy and triumph of the Weiss family of Berlin and intertwines their fate as European Jews with the story of a German family, the Dorfs, whose members include a high-ranking Nazi officer. Filmed on location in Germany and Austria, Holocaust uses the stories of these fictional families to portray the atrocities against the Jewish people from the 1930s to 1945, and presents a heart-wrenching portrait of their struggle.

This is the anniversary edition released in the U.S. and Canada in 2008.

@mickigoe  Thank you very much. I also believe religion is used to justify war, and find it ironic that people use it to make themselves feel better about killing others. I find much of organized religion's claims absurd; not the basic teaching of love/tolerance, but organized religion's interpretation of it (example: tithing, especially to televangilists, which is legalized robbery). Religion will continue to prosper as long as man continues to fear death. Your friend, Christina

@tinat30135 My comment was not a response to your exclamatory phrase ( which is just a banal knee-jerk phrase a la OMG ) but the closing clause of your previous post. Your point about religion being an instrument of government/repression is so accurate !

But religion is also useful in justifying war - this was the point of my post. But all this is frothy irrelevance in the context of the loss of your beautiful child .... I am so sad for you . I wish you healing and health , friend.

@mickigoe I think I used a poor choice of words when I said holy mother of god, I only used it for the impact of my horror. I am neither christian, muslim, hindu, or any other mainstream religion. I think organized religion was created by governments to control their people, as well as take their money. As more of an agnostic than anything else, I'm not sure any of us are qualified to say whether or not God exists. When my child died I quit trusting and believing in any god..

@tinat30135 When will it ever strike you , tinat , that if we all stopped believing in the existence of god there would be a great deal less hate and evil in the world. Just how many poor people have been persecuted in god's name over the long centuries ? God = irrational beliefs = religious differences = wars = evil. With god comes evil.

Normally I would respond with a "Holy Mother of God!", but the fact that this kind of thing actually happened, day after day, year after year, to millions of people, makes me question the existance of any god at all.

@TheDKGirl The worst idiot is the mother, who should have been shot or gassed a long time ago. If it wasn't for her ego and denial of what was obviously going on around her, her whole family including her sorry ass would be alive and happy somewhere far from that Hell hole. This show angers me.

many inmates dies of malnutrition, the cold, beatings, shooting, electrocutings, etc.

the usage of gas in the beginning of this genocid was very limited. though the nazi criminals later on advanced the lvl of usage to the main killing method.

escpecially in the beginning shooting was the most common method of mass murder...

@alexamerling20 Hadamar was a so called T4 euthanasia killing centre in Hesse, Germany. They gassed the “mentally disturbed” patients in vans. The Hadamar "sluice" became the model for the "sluices" or "tubes", later used in the extermination camps of “Aktion Reinhard”. From the commencement of gassing operations on 13 January 1941 until August of that year, approximately 100 victims were killed every day.
