Buliwyf in 13th Warrior (1999) is a fine Beowulf take-off.

best man of a great king, sent to help another king having Grendel problems.
officer and gentlemen for a 'proto-viking'
never insult the queen, be a liar, a thief. upholds cultural codes of a nobleman. He was no lowly commoner

i understand your poin-of-view and absolutely agree... i have not read beowulf, but the beowulf character on the "2007" is everything but a virtuous...perhaps the book beowulf is something like Hamlet, a virtued man?

Beowulf to me is like Achilles of Odysseus - not the subject matter of mocking them braggarts and jerk offs.

I really am an original fan of Beowulf. The crap movie: paints him as being the opposite of virtues across the board. From hero, to boasting liar. Shaking his dick in the face of a queen, of a King he greatly respects. Beowulf is not the soiled hero character. He is not a reluctant hero, like Spiderman. He is not the graceless brute a pirate. To me: someone wrote beowulf in reverse-virtues to make him look like a jerk
Parabéns!
