I use about 38inches of #2 Picture Wire to make each snare but you can use most any gauge wire or string to make a snare. Many people use the cords inside of paracord to make snares.

All you do is take about two inches of the wire to make a loop at one end of the wire (the smaller the hole the better) then thread the other end of the wire through it to make a larger loop.

The loop end can be placed on a game trail or on a branch or log that squirrels use to run up a tree. The other end can be wrapped around part of a tree limb to secure it.

To make sure your game doesn't escape, it is best to set your snare so that when a squirrel or bird pokes it's head through and feels the noose tighten they will fall off of a tree branch as they try to escape and end up suspended and hanging in the air.
