This shows some features of the Galaxy Engine. Which is a true 3D voxel engine for Nintendo DS/DSi made by Hugo Smits.

It's also the engine our upcoming game, Flipper!, is build on.

  • I like it, but am I the only one who sees stock video superimposed onto a static image of a DS?

  • I recorded the video from a emulator. I then put it over a image of a Nintendo DS, to make it extra clear that it runs on a Nintendo DS.

Otherwise a lot of fanboys might say the PS3 or Xbox has waaay better graphics, and the video is stupid.

I also think it speaks more to the imagination this way.

The Engine is real. And the game based on it (called Flipper) soon gets released for DSi-ware.

  • So if it's not opensource, are you thinking of licencing it, or is it done "just for fun"?

  • Its not open-source because its build upon the official SDK (which costs a considerable amount of money, so I can assure you its more than fun).

I build the engine for my own game; Flipper!. Because of that I build the toolset with my game in mind. So I would have to do some considerable work on the tools before it would be good enough to use for any kind of project.

Besides that, I dont have the resources to offer support for companies that would buy a license.

  • looks prommessing. do you release it as opensource?

  • no, it's build upon the official SDK.

  • Why dont you guys try making a DS physics engine?

  • Alright, this is awesome. I've been thinking of and experimenting with this sort of 'digging' in games for a long time, but to see it running on a DS is not something I was expecting!

  • you could make it so you can insert models via an sd card :D

  • nevertheless congrats
