JS SHMUPS-MUGEN #04: Styx vs. Remilia Scarlet (Kuri)

I have two words to describe this battle: Holy crap.

This entire fight against one character lasted this long, so this time, this SHMUPS MUGEN video is just a single boss fight.

It took me 3 hours to learn Remilia's attacks and counteract them using Styx. I had to strategically select which weapons to use during different points in the fight.

If you thought Marisa Kirisame was a tough cookie, you have not seen Remilia. Remilia makes Marisa look like a baby in comparison. Remilia is the final boss of the Touhou game Embodiment of Scarlet Devil, and it damn shows here in her MUGEN incarnation of her Immaterial and Missing Power version.She has six forms of attack. Her "zero" form is a standard fighting game character. Here is a description of her next five forms, four of which come from her Story mode Spellcards from IaMP:

Form 1: First Card (Bad Lady Scramble) - Remilia is invincible, rushing in every direction trailing a wake of shockwaves and bullets. She can only be hurt if she lands for a brief period.

Form 2: Second Card (My Heartbreak) - Remilia gains almost total invincibility. She generates a giant energy spear that, when thrown, shoots a shower of bullets in one of two directions. You can tell which direction she will shoot by looking at the direction of the "tracer" that comes out of the spear before Remilia throws it.

Form 3: Third Card (Hell Catastrophe) - This is a very evil form. Remilia floats up and does one of three attacks: An area attack that blasts you if you are underneath her, a random shower of exploding laser fire from an energy ball, or extremely fast aimed giant spheres. These spheres can be slowed down with Styx's Hunter weapon. I made numerous mistakes during this form that I nearly lost all of my lives here.

Form 4: Night Sign (Queen of Midnight) - Remilia does tons of jumps, releasing a crapload of bullets at you. Every now and then, she stops to shoot a spray of bullets forward. The Hunter can destroy these bullets, but I needed a powerful weapon (Sever Laser) to knock her out quick. Otherwise, this battle would have gone on much longer.

Final Form: Custom Card (Judas Stigmata) - Her most deadly form, she appears out of nowhere and fires a Mettsu Hadouken from four random locations. She can only be hit for a moment after she finishes the Mettsu Hadouken. As the battle progresses, she begins to clone herself up to four times. You must hit the right clone in order to damage her. Later on, energy spears start appearing, and a portal appears in the center, releasing a gigantic magenta sphere careening towards you. Styx's Hunter weapon can slow it down to make an escape. Near the end, a striker comes in and slows you down. Remilia continues her assault while you are attacking at half-speed.

This is totally like a true shmup boss fight. To beat Remilia as a SHMUP ship, you have to be on constant alert and learn how to read Remilia's attacks and react accordingly. I may do a rematch against Remilia using Styx one more in the future, but going for the challenge of not dying once (called the one-life clear, or 1LC, in SHMUP terminology).

this is the 1st time ive seen a mugan shmup, it might be fun if it didnt take so long to kill her. i havnt bothered with mugan yet, is it possible to increase the pwr of your ships shots?
