He was doing both ogoshi and ukashi goshi for the purpose of explaining the distinction between the two techniques. I'm afraid that's lost in translation with the poor audio quality.

how is this different from uki goshi?

Great - Halprin is doing both - the funny thing is I don't thing he knows which one he is doing.

Kanai Sensei used to call the koshinage off the front of the hip ogoshi but he changed it to ukashi goshi a couple of years before he passed away. However Halprin should have called this technique a koshinage--if you look closely you'll see this is not a correct ukashi goshi as he is throwing the uke over the back of his hip.

Great video! By the way, koshinage off the front of nage's hip is called ukashi goshi, not ogoshi.
Many thanks! I'll correct the title and description for this one too. I'm still a bit fuzzy on several of the technique names.
Were you also at Summer Camp? I'm guessing you train at Framingham Aikikai? I've been there twice. David Sensei and Barbara Sensei are great instructors and very nice people. I had the pleasure training with both of them during Camp.
