Little ol' cinema advert advertising... well, the cinema. Well, UCI Cinemas to be exact.
And it just so happens that UCI Cinemas were my favourite cinema chian. Unfortunately, I have to say WERE rather than IS.
This is because, unfortunately, UCI Cinemas shut down a few years back now. I used to go to the UCI in Swansea, a smallish-looking cinema, but really it had a whopping ten screens beyond its red-framed doors.
I used to love it. UCI used to be very well decorated and atmospheric. They even had a few sofas in the foyer. Strangely, the ODEON that replaced it lacks sofas, which I think is stupid. What if you arrive early and want to sit down? Well, you have to lean on the wall at my cinema, thank you very much, while staring at animated caricatures from that movie Rio, which I believe has been out of cinemas for a good few months now -- but moving on...
Not that I have too much against the ODEON; the place still manages to hold its shape, but it looked a lot better when it was a UCI. Why the hell did they even go away? I think it's because ODEON wanted more cinemas, so they bought UCI and took over my cinema.
I remember that UCI tried to keep control, by calling it UCI -- Owned by ODEON, but eventually that soon faded away too, and we now just have an ODEON. Damn.
Gone are the blue sofas and the cinema-reel carpets and the UCI logo that just lunges out at you, like in this advert.
So, watch the advert, enjoy the memories (if you have any), and back away when the UCI logo tries to take you head off.
Enjoy the film.
God, If you thought UCI was a nicer cinema than ODEON you must have been MAD. No carpets, no style, no decent decor, not even afamous historical cinema name. UCI knew they were "80s" and therefore tacky. ODEON had style and history.
UCI does own ODEON, but they just rebranded their cinemas to look more traditional. But it's the same company. There are sofas in the foyer (or lobby as you call it) - I know, I put them there!
