what are you talking about? You want the evaporator glowing red as it makes a stronger bond and lets it flow. he is using high content silver brazing rods, not using solder as im sure is what your used to using

Would you use steel or alu for an evap? Im sure steel would be the last thing you would wanna be using.

I realize it's thin metal you're working with there, but if it's glowing, turn the heat down a bit.
Try to use something other than that handheld flamethrower next time :) A small rosebud would knock that out in no time.

What are you talking about? a smaller tip on the torch would make it take a very long time to the reach brazing temp.
What kind of brazing are you familiar with??
