not forever, but I think you are downplaying the cycles and how long they are. It is true that we have altered the weather patterns on Earth which in turn could cause this cold future, but the Earth has gone through cycles of high leveled oceans for longer periods than the existence of man, it is possible for it to go through such a cycle again.
