Sophian is and expat from Berlin, Germany and is running a B&B in Guanajuato, Mexico with his wife Valeria. He shares his story... http://www.facebook.com/whitecollarvagabond We loved our B&B Meson Cuevano, authentic yet modern, rustic yet comfortable. Great experience. This small hotel is located in the historical center of the city, all the main attractions are within walking distance 2-5 minutes (Plaza de la Paz, Basilica, Jardín de la Union, Teatro Juárez, Callejón del Beso, restaurants, bars, cafes etc.). It's one of those typical colonial buildings, completely remodeled to function as a hotel. They offer 12 small but comfortable and warmly decorated rooms (about 10 square meters). The owners are a young couple running this place, Valeria and Sophian (end 20), she is from Guanajuato Capital and Sophian is from Berlin/Germany. They opened this place April 2011, so not everything might be perfect yet but they are doing all their best to give good service and make their guests feel very welcome. Step by step they are investing money they gain to improve things. Especially with younger crowd they are popular (20-50 years), they appreciate the personal service and modern and private ambience. There is not one tv in the hotel, since the concept is based on a novel of Jorge Ibargüengoitia ("Estas ruinas que ves"), a famous mexican writer from Guanajuato who describes in this novel the city of "Cuévano" (synonym for Guanajuato) and his personalities. For that reason all the rooms got names of persons who appear in this novel instead of numbers. Our room was "Gloria Revirado". There is actually no need for air conditioning as those old buildings are made of adobe, so they are regulating temperature by themselves, and for really hot days there are still ventilators available.
