From the 2010 season premiere of the U.S. Antiques Roadshow, on PBS. It is the highest appraisal value ever given on the show. This 18th-Century Qianlong Jade Collection from the 18th century Qing Dynasty was acquired between the late 1930's and through the 1940s, by her father while he was serving in the military as a liaison. The guest recalls that as a child, she "heard that some of them had imperial seals," and was curious to learn more. What a surprise it was, to learn that they were the most valuable items to ever be shown on the North American syndication of the show.

Original air date: January 4th, 2010

Appraiser: James Callahan

Appraised on: June 27th, 2009 (in Raleigh, North Carolina)

Episode #1401 (Raleigh, Hour 1)

  • Nice tags. Do you get a lot of hits from Alta Vista with those?

  • @TigerDXX HAH! I remember Alta Vista! Though I certainly didn't use it for THAT!

Does Alta Vista even exist anymore? Oh my god, it does! Who it the hell is using that still? What do they do, dial in with Netscape Navigator?

  • I saw one where a guy had six rhino horn carvings that he payed 5,000 for altogether, and the estimated value was 1,000,000 to 1,500,000

  • @Riggedmuffin Yes, I know. I'll be updating these videos someday. Oh, what a project these AR videos have become!

  • @GdsClown17 But you can eat olives, you can't eat antiques

  • @bathhouse4000

Thats like saying why do people like to eat olives (I think olives are one of the grosses things to eat) The people who buy olives and eats them like the taste that it has so they buy it.Some people like to collect old stuff so they buy old stuff. Not exaclty the same situation but the IDEA is the same.

  • Why do people pay good money for old junk, just so they can sell it one day to some other thick weirdo who'll pay even more for it. Or this this just some kind of financial licence for the corrupt middle class snotty nosed weirdo's to print their own currency.

  • damn XD
