Although I'm not NFDBoy, I can say that is Connecticut. I live about three miles away from Niantic Station 1. I think it is volunteer.

Thats correct. The other call signs, Engine 3 or Truck 1, are used in town. Utilizing the "B" in front easily distinguishes who's apparatus is who's at a large incident. By the way, MetalSnake. Keeping it old school

The letter/number combination is the New London (CT) county apparatus designation construct. The letter signifies the town. In this case "B" which is East Lyme. The first number designates which station or department in the town. In this case "1" for Niantic. The second number signifies apparatus type. 1,2,3 are engines, 4 service, 5 ladder/tower, 6 utility, 7 rescue. East Lyme has a second department, the Flanders FD. Their apparatus include B-21, B-22, B-23, B-25, B-27.

Engine 3 is real nice but it could use some new lights
No, I was asking why do you have seperate numbers on the apparatus. Why does each unit have an engine number and then a "B" Number. Is one a call sign for the radio or what?

Oh. for example, engine 3 is B-13. B-13 is what the engine signs on the radio with. Station B is what it calls to hense B-13.
