Today, I'm talking about OTOSHIDAMA!
I hope you enjoy this video!

-----

The going rate for OTOSHIDAMA (cash gift for children at New Year's)

☆Preschool children (under 6 years old)...¥ 2,807 (about 36 $)

☆Elementary school children, Grades 1- 3 (6~8 year's old)...¥2,888 (about 37 $)

☆Elementary school children, Grades 4-6 (9~11 year's old)...¥ 3,791 (about 48 $)

☆Junior High School children (12~14 year's old)...¥ 5,771 (about 74 $)

☆High School children (15~17 year's old)...¥7,904 (about 101 $)

☆College students (18~21 year's old), etc....¥ 10,644 (about 136 $)

-------

Anyway, take care and have a good weekend, everyone! (^0^)/

  • Is there a reason why the amounts stated are not a nice round number? Or is that just the average amount? It would look kinda weird to receive exactly 2,888 yen but that's just my opinion.

  • @LoveWillB4U Ah~!! I can understand what you mean! But that is just a going rate one of NHK programs showed. So we have to take it "around numbers", I think. I'm going to give OTOSHIDAMA to children in round number, but some might give 2,012 yen or good number for them. ^-^

  • Well, I just saw your soba video. I guess I got my answer. Thank you for leaving me my answer in advance :)

  • @WatashiNoOmocha OMG!! I just recommended you watching that my video...!! ahaha! Sorry!! ^0^ <3

Because it's probably the AVERAGE of the people they surveyed and got the numbers from. It's not like every Elementary school student gets EXACTLY 2888 yen. lol.

  • このビデオを作ってありがとうございました。

  • About your question of "mochi or money" - hmmmm. ( ^ o ^ ) - Seriously, mochi EVERY time! Rice is the source of life. Money is, at best, only second place.

Peace and happiness to those who are still at home in Japan (homesick!). Be safe, all!

  • こっれぽっち可愛い!!

  • i live in Brazil and my grandparents are japanese. So, since I was a kid I remember receiving an amount of money in this time of the year, but at that age, I didn't know this was a tradition in Japan...teehee! xD Today I've learned a lot of vocabulary and other interesting things with your video, Miyabi! Thank u for your hard work! Merry X'mas & a wonderful 2012 for you!! :)

  • ahaha! I guess we are kinda alike ^_^
