On May 28, 1914, at 16:30 local time, the Canadian Pacific RMS Empress of Ireland departed Quebec City for Liverpool under the command of Captain Henry G. Kendall. She had 1477 passengers and crew aboard her.

At 02:00, May 29, in a heavy fog, the Empress of Ireland collided with the Norwegian collier Storstad. The Storstad stayed afloat, the Empress of Ireland would not. The Empress of Ireland would sink, taking 1012 passengers and crewmen with her. She would sink within fourteen minutes.

  • Great video. The text you compiled was somewhat hard to read though. Just my $0.02.

  • Yeah, I realized that after I put it up, but decided that I'd see how everything went with it. Unfortunately, it would seem that the compression done by Youtube worsened it slightly at parts. Thank you for your comment.

  • A Beautiful song for such a beautiful ship. Empress Of Ireland. May we, unlike the people for much of the 20th Century, never forget her.

  • is it me or did all the cruise ships back then sink lol?

  • the Empress of Ireland look like a mini Olympic in her last year. So sad that she took all but 400 people with. The Empress of Ireland had the least amout of survivors out of all the sinkings of Great Ships.

  • Man, the Empress of Ireland was such a beautiful Ocean Liner. I know it's sad that she sank, but at least it's better than being scrapped.

  • Empress of Britain & Empress of Ireland. Before Lusitania & Mauretania, These Ocean Liners were absolutly beautiful

  • Thank god their makeing a movie of her.

    P.S. nice tribute. :)

  • The Empress of Ireland was a beautiful ship.

  • Great video. This music was used in the National geographic film "The Last Voyage of the Lusitania."

  • only 4 boats were launced before the angle became to sleep

8 more PASSENGERS died aboard this ship than on board the titanic

  • she was 570 feet long, while the titanic was 882 and the lusitania was 787 feet long

also, the empress of irelands top speed was 18 knots, while the lusitanias was 28 knots
