The guerrillas were based in Zambia, just across the Zambezi to the north of Rhodesia. Their main camp was at Westland Farm, north of the Zambian capital of Lusaka, and hundreds of miles away from the border. For the Rhodesians to strike back would mean taking wholesale control of Zambian airspace, and ferrying aircraft and soldiers deep into a hostile country. Needless to say, neither the guerrillas nor the Zambians expected them to do it.
On October 19, 1978, the Rhodesians did it.

  • @mookergee .... Selous Scouts orbat was not based on squadrons - they were called Groups - and F nose where you are getting your kill figures from - or any other facts - in fact a tale teller ... :-(

  • Such a tragedy to have fought against thugs and lost,

  • @Heineken57sauce I suggest you read "Don't Lets go To the Dogs Tonght" by Alexandra Fuller. It will give you an insight into what it was like to be a farmer in Rhodesia. Money was tight, they worked night and day. They worked ALONGSIDE blacks who were like family to them and fought with them also. I recommend the book and I also suggest you get to know the people - also go there yourself as I have done.

  • K-cars jokeys are the ballsiest guys in the promise. No K-cars drivers buys a drink in our club!

  • @MrMukiwasteve I've always been fascinated by Rhodesia and the Bush War, but I've never actually been able to read up much on it. Could you give any more info on Operation Quarts etc.? Cheers!

  • lol willing to fight to the death, but not willing to work they're own fields.. reliance on non-white labor was they're downfall, as was south afrika's 15 years later..

  • @WinchesterRanger Ha ha & leave it to "grown ups" like you who took the chicken run in the 70's. Sitting comfortably in Canada or USA r we fat boy. You have no authority talking about our country. All your comments are from ignorance.

  • @iltidsn Wow, you know so many naughty words !! Now buzz off, the grown ups are talking, no one wants to listen to your teenage tantrums.
