Locrian Modal Jam on Mandola and Nylon-string Guitar 081109

We tried to do one improvisation session in locrian mode; this is much harder than the other modes because it starts on the 7th note of the major scale, which is just a half step below the tonic, and it has both a minor third and a diminished fifth (that gives you a diminished chord on the tonic, for a very odd feel). On the one hand, it is much harder to finger; on the other, it tends to favor sliding into other modes (e.g. ionian, by shifting to the second as tonic, or phrygian, by changing some of the intervals). We'll need to work on this more to know what we really want to do with it.

If by minor, you mean flatted, yes, but the third is also a minor third. Locrian places the tonic on the seventh of the major scale, hence the second is a mere half-step from the tonic and the second a whole step above that, or a minor third from the tonic.

Sounds like phrygian/locrian, I hear a fifth over the tonic most of the time. But it still sounds nice.
