This is a 1970's documentary about the SR71 and the records that it set. This video is about the first time it was released to the public at the Farnborough, England Air Show, and the record that it set on the way over. Not sure what year this was.

  • 102 mark is my dad with his boss and some military dude in the middle. he died at 71 years old. I had a 71 cuda and charger.

  • you can see my dad standing in front of a motorhome next to Kelly and a general. Kelly has his hand over his hart. My dad Bill Ferguson is blocking the glare looking up at the sled. Blackbird family. Got any work for me? Im unemployed. I worked of Kelly and Bill. Have a family and teens.

  • the person at the 1:44 mark is a tech sgt if anyone is interested

  • If you watch the various videos, the acknoledeged speed is 2200MPH with a cruise altitude of 100,000 ft. It was made from Russian titanium;) the plane was over 6" longer at speed and the engines over a ft longer. From an engineering standpoint I don't think the plane could cruise much faster, maybe mach 3.5, but air friction heating is the big limitation. Satellites and the U2 do the job.

No computers back then, all slide rulers and experience.

  • The Skunk Works designed the Blackbird in the early '60s. We put men on the moon in the '60s. That was almost 50 years ago. We progressed from the Wright Bros to the Blackbird in a like amount of time.

Think about what we have now

  • Scramjet = tomorrows technology. Mach 10+

  • HA That would be RAD! SR-71 or Concord? I bet tickets for an SR-71 would be $20 Million NY to London! SR means strategic reconnaissance but I think it really means "Speed Record!"

  • 2:35

    Start cart! :P

  • I am 38 years old, but I remember seeing on a cereal box this machine. It used to leak fuel onto the floor when it was stood still, because of the fueluslage expansion and the pilot wore an astronauts clothing, if ever an invention / aircraft should be compared with Concored

  • short speed range and maneuverability for dogfighting man, load this thing with long range weapon it could be fired without being detected
