This year, I have decided to participate in my very first Half Marathon. I'll be doing this as a St. Jude Hero. To put this distance (13.1 miles) in perspective, I've never run a 10K (6.2 miles). In an effort to help find cures and save the lives of children fighting cancer and other deadly diseases, my goal is to help raise $5,000 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. I am asking for your help!

I will be running for my personal hero, Nick. In the summer of 2010, Nick was diagnosed with an Astrocytoma. This is a malignant brain tumor. This tumor was located on the thalamus, which is along the mid-brain. Nick has had an operation to remove the tumor as well as multiple rounds of chemotherapy and radiation. Nick is continuing to take chemotherapy at this time. Through it all, Nick never complains. If I had to describe Nick in one word, he's a FIGHTER!!! Running this Half-Marathon is the least I can do to help Nick in his battle with cancer.

If I had to describe myself: I'm 48 years old, not a runner, been married 24 years, and the father of two sons. My wife thinks I'm a little crazy for doing this. Maybe I am, but when I consider the battle Nick is fighting on a daily basis, my training efforts for this Half Marathon are nothing!

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, founded by the late Danny Thomas, is one of the world's premier pediatric cancer research centers. Children from all 50 states and from around the world have come through the doors of St. Jude for treatment, and thousands more around the world have benefited from the research conducted at St. Jude - research that is shared freely with the global medical community. St. Jude is the only pediatric cancer research center where families NEVER pay for treatments that are not covered by insurance. No child is denied treatment because of a family's inability to pay.

Danny Thomas believed that "no child should die in the dawn of life." I'm asking that you prayerfully consider making a donation to support my efforts for St. Jude and join the fight against childhood cancer.

Thanks for helping me reach my goal for the kids of St. Jude!
