Hi, I'm just same as you heard Patty Griffin's song Mary in the "The Ground Truth - After the Killing Ends" ! I'm from Iraq and was in the war of 2003! Simply, languages won't be able to express what happened! I think it illustrates the life of most of the mothers out there: "While the angels are singin' his praises in a blaze of glory/Mary stays behind and starts cleaning up the place"! What a beautifully illustrated contrast. Sons leave the family home sooner or later, but the mother stays at home with no fanfare around them to celebrate that they managed to raise a new life.
In my opinion she has chosen Mary is to just symbolise motherhood generally as Mary is the "Mother of mothers" in a way...
