Tommy made his first recording of "It's All In The Game" This was a very fine recording with lots of strings to back up his velvet voice. It was charted at #18 that year. In 1958 he would update the song with an uptempo arangement and be one of the biggest hits of the year. But I like this one just as much.

Great songs like this lend themselves to many varying treatments. I love both this and the '58 version.

Like you I like both versions, but the 58 recording has special for me as a girl that I was sweet on tried to teach me to dance to this song along with "Morning side of the Mountain". It didn't work as I still can't dance just two left feet.

You seem to be different from most young people of today. You seem to know what you have missed, most don't know and don't care. That includes the young in my family.

All these years I've thought the date 1951 was a misprint. Glad to know its not! This version is fabulous. Thank you so much for posting. I waited 30 years to hear it without knowing it really existed. lol

I prefer this version to the 58 version but both were wonderfully sung. Thanks for sharing.

This wonderful, beautiful, heart warming masterpiece was released on the air waves two years
before I was born so all I could ever remember was this great rendition because that was what
I grew up with. The 58 version which topped the charts for some six weeks is cool but just doesn't do anything for me like the original version. I mean no disrespect but I'm calling it the
way that I feel it. PEACE !!

Woowwww....I have NEVER heard this version. If I didn't know any better, I would've mistaken Tommy Edwards for Nat Cole on this one. The '51 and '58 versions might be very different arrangements, but it is amazing how classic they both are. From a vocal full of beautiful strings to its transformation into an unforgettable doo wop beat...beautiful!!
