REMEMBER! You have to back up all your data with Time Machine before you do a clean install because this process wipes your hard drive clean!
NOTE! If you have a BootCamp partition you have to erase it with the bootcamp assistant before you do a clean install because once the operating system is reinstalled it will not recognize it.

I just decided i'd clean out all the old Leopard files on my Mac by doing a clean install to see if it would run faster, and it seems to be!

  • So i got an imac from a friend who no longer wanted it and I want to do a clean install on it. Anyway, if I do a clean install, do I have to know what his old admin password was? or is it like windows where I can just boot from the disk and disk manager from there? Thanks!!

  • @stebopign i havent' done it in a while but I'm pretty sure you don't need it no. Sorry i cant be more sure.

  • Hey man now i downloading mac os x leopard and when it's done i will install it.But i have a very import question. Will all my data will remain stored in the installation of the operating system?

  • @MaloletniDelikvent26 what operating system are you on now? Tiger or Snow Leopard, or leopard already? Are you upgrading or downgrading.

I just have to ask since you said you're downloading leopard...

  • If I use this method and I have a windows partition from bootcamp will I still be able to use that after the clean install?

  • @XIPsquaredIX good question, in most cases it'll be fine. Whatever happens you'll definitely still be able to use the partition. I did it and it worked perfectly. There's just a slight risk that boot camp assistant mightn't recognise it but I wouldn't worry, you can always fix that with Disk Utility.

Mac OSX is completely separate to the Windows partition, so it won't affect the way it works
