Durbin Day in Santa Cruz (the homecoming Fox tried to ban)

American Idol contestant James Durbin returns home to Santa Cruz after being eliminated this past week. The top three contestants all get lavish homecomings, sponsored by Idol, the Fox Network, etc. - Durbin, at number four, was told he would not be allowed leave Hollywood this weekend. But Santa Cruz persisted and insisted and got permission to bring James home for the day.

First part: James' arrival outside the Louden Nelson Community Center, where an invitation-only event for James' friends and the Kids on Broadway group was held in the afternoon.

Second part: The official celebration and concert at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, with an estimated 20,000-30,000 fans assembled and screaming for more.

Glad James Durbin got a homecoming, and I love the film, but I'd never heard of the guy! I haven';t left NYC in a while, but if I do, I want a ticker tape parade down Broadway when I get back!!

@Jenla68 There was a rumor that they might show some of Durbin Day, but, of course, not a second of it. And, compared to what I saw of the other three homecomings, this one was the best.
