Emission Jazz Casual présentée par Ralph Gleason, enregistrée en 1962 - Turk Murphy's San Fransisco Jazz Band - Turk Murphy (trombone), Bob Helm (clarinet, vocal), Bob Neighbor (trumpet), Pete Clute (piano), Harold Johnson (tuba), Lloyd Byassee (drums). Terrible Blues, Sidewalk Blues, Weary Blues
It was Benson Curtis who set me straight with Turk Murphy back in the early 70's. That's when I was getting my feet wet with Trad. I was in my early 20's, hungry for something other than the junk they were playing on pop radio. I learned that Mr. Curtis was bringing his jazz program, "Strictly From Dixie" back to radio on our local jazz station here in L.A. It was there that I listened and learned a lot about the history of America's Original Art Form.

When I was about 5 my mom took me to hear a rehearsal of Turk Murphy's band when they were in New York City. In the 1950's. I had never heard live music before and I was completely blown away and have been a fan of American "Roots" music ever since.

I can best you by one year. I first heard Turk and his band over short wave radio. It was put out by AFRS from TOkyo. The year was 1952 and I was stationed in northern Japan. I've been a fan ever since.
