What a day!!!
Hereford United, then of the Southern League, defeat the mighty Newcastle United of the First Division (for our younger viewers that was then the top tier of English Football) by 2 goals to 1 in an epic FA Cup 3rd Round Replay at Edgar Street, Hereford. Hereford's first goal / equaliser, the famous 'Ronnie Radford Rocket', was subsequently voted BBC Goal of the Season for 1971/72 and the winner was scored by Ricky George who went on to co-own a Grand National winner (Earth Summit in 1998).

I never get tired of watching this amazing game. It's great to see all the young fans in their parker coats stream onto the pitch, to heap further humiliation on Newcastle's keeper Ian Mcfaul. I loved that coat.
When did Dixie Mcneil come on the scene for Hereford? scored agreat goal at Newcastle in 1978 for Wrexham in the cup.
I'd love to get hold of that clip. How do you get these great video clips ? What is the cost and are there any legal or licensing issues that I need to be aware?
I have since found longer highlights on a BBC Triple DVD set 'Match Of The Day The Best Of The 60s, 70s and 80s' which I really must get round to posting. This one includes a lot more of the game including the Newcastle goal.
I also have even longer highlights on my Sky+ from an ESPN Classic show called FA Cup Upsets but I don't have the right gear to rip that to the PC.
There's no secret to getting hold of clips; just recording a broadcast, if you spot that it's on, or from a DVD. I don't know anything about licencing so my clip might get deleted for saying that but I don't think anybody would be really bothered about these? There are other videos which are copyright and do get deleted of course....
Great memories when the F A Cup was the World's most exciting competition. Who would have thought that in that same season, shortly after this match, Hereford lost to Aberystwyth Town in the Welsh Cup and I believe that David Williams, nicknamed Dias scored the winning goal! By the way who defeated Hereford in the F A Cup that year? Thanks for the memory.
Hereford played West Ham, including the legendary Bobby Moore & Geoff Hurst (can't recall if Martin Peters was still there then) in the next round. The first leg was a 0:0 draw at 'Edgar Street' then the Hammers won the replay 3:1 at Upton Park. Good times!!

Best commentary ever also.

Dixie McNeil played for Hereford from 1974 to 1977 and again in 1982-83; either side of his spell at Wrexham in fact.
This clip was 'ripped' from a DVD called 'Football's Greatest Ever Matches' (from M & S of all places); this match is in the bonus material.

The times we live in.
