Lagat pulls off rare double gold

American Bernard Lagat became the first man to win the 1,500- and 5,000-meter titles at the same world championships with a stunning victory in the longer distance on Sunday. The Kenyan-born 32-year-old stormed through the last 200 meters to cross the line in 13:45.87 and claim 5,000-meter gold after breaking a 99-year drought for his new country in the 1,500-meter earlier in the week. Tactics, heats, I don't care what the excuse is... if the winning time in a WC 5000 is 13:46, there should be no medals awarded. You don't hand out the WC gold for a time like that. Let them try again next year in the 1500, or, if that's still too far to race before the bell lap, the 800.

@MrRedskins0021 Lagat moved to america to extend his running carrier. Its hard to compete for Kenya at his age. Smart move really, cause there isn't as much competition here.

what do you mean lagat is an average runner??? he beat el guerrouj a couple times in the past, and he's the second fastest 1500m runner EVER. his best time is 3:26.3 which is only 3 tenths of a second off the world record, and his best 5k is 12:59, and his mile time is 3:47!!!!!!! AND he got a bronze medal in sydney, a silver in athens, and a bronze and a silver in this year's world champs in berlin!! oh by the way, he's 34 freakin years old and still one of the best mid. dist. runners on earth.
