  • I'd like to respectfully disagree on both points;

    1) the setup wizard doesn't handle full clone desktops - it only works with provisioning server-based desktops

    2) Citrix recommends that the base image in a provisioning server desktop be set to read only. This means, among other things, users cannot install applications (to be fair View Composer has this same issue). so customers deploy full clones with storage reduction on the SAN to allow these user installed apps.

  • Well why not use citrix provisioning and make copies of the vdisk in private mode. Then you don't have to sysprep and users can install applications to each vdisk individually.

  • Actually you are comparing apples and pears. Noone will use full clones in a XenDesktop environment because of Provisioning Services with which you can provide hundreds of desktops in no time while still only updating and supporting a single image!

  • Sorry to say, you don't know the competition at all. Use the Citrix Provisioning server wizard....so much quicker. Vmware cannot compete with price, performance.
