it's broken. only one way to fix it. amend the constitution so that we the people can propose law. the supreme court, the congress, the presidency. it's all been bought out. we the people can't be bought out. and if we can...well that's a GOOD thing. it's in the nations own interest as well as the individuals.

  • @oldhacks It reminds me of the libertarians and market anarchists who believe in a "self correcting" system. (In their case, the market) I'm inherently skeptical of any system that's proposed that is simple, and "self correcting". Things are just usually a lot more complicated than "voila".

  • @oldhacks Yes I know, that was my point...

  • @TiradeFaction every problem we face as individuals that live in America is a problem that can be overcome simply by using democracy. get everyone together.let everyone pitch their ideas.whatever the best ideas are get voted on. voila. problem "addressed".

  • @oldhacks If anything, I'm arguing *against* the position of "tyranny of the majority". I'm arguing the minority can still manipulate the process to achieve their own ends, at contrast with the public's self interest, within such a system, thus not fixing the issue. I'm not even really arguing against direct democracy, I'm arguing that I don't particularly think this issue will be fixed under a direct democracy, not alone at least. My position is a lot more nuanced than you're making it out tobe

  • @oldhacks Because sometimes it's right? My argument was that the mass media can manipulate the populace at large to act against their own self interest. You're arguing against an argument I didn't make "Tyranny of the majority" argument". Hence strawman. Sorry.

  • @TiradeFaction why is it anytime someone starts losing a debate they immediately play the strawman card?

  • @oldhacks Well, no, I'm not arguing that position, so sorry. If you're just going to beat against strawmen, have fun.

  • @TiradeFaction you have to ALLOW people to make mistakes so that they can learn. as things stand today we have a nanny state fall guy mentality. "Its the gubberment!" because laws are made and policies are decided without our consent nor us even having the ability to persuade. so, thats why you have an ignorant population.as long as they have the nanny state to blame they'll never take responsibility.

  • @TiradeFaction you don't think you are, but you are. that's life. either we share power. or we elect someone else to take responsibility.

  • @oldhacks I think you're under the impression I'm arguing the point of "Tyranny of the majority", which I'm certainly not. If you believe so, feel free to show me where I've said this. I recognize our current system is in fact, tyranny of the minority, and the affluent minority at that. I was arguing the populace at large can be manipulated by special interests to act against their own interests via the mass media, and other tools. Or in simpler terms, minority rule could still ensure.
