The tap water back then was better than bottled water of today with the BPA and without the poisonous sodium fluoride water that's in today's municipal water supply. Soda was made with real sugar back then without the nasty aspartame and HFCS in today' s drinks.

@apk1215 New York and... I think Chicago was pretty much like nowadays when it comes to segregation in those days.

It's my understanding that segregation only occurred in the Southeast U.S. and essentially nowhere else. The American accents suggest that they aren't in the Southeast and that's probably why the diner wasn't segregated.
