these units suffer from defective ccd units as well as many many others, look it up. i know i have a broken 1 too, but i'm gonna fix it myself.

@MedelProductions dude, i had to pay for it myself, 600 dollars back then, and when I got it, I treated that thing like a baby. It was the biggest purchase I had ever made when I was 13, and I wanted it to last forever. It didn't have one scratch, nick, or scuff on it when I sent it away to be fixed, and it ran like a top up until then. But... when it didn't arrive two years later, it was an excuse to buy an even better one :) Now I'm eying the Canon XA-10, smoking camera, check it out!!

crappiest camcorder I ever owned... Then the screen went all funky and sent it in for a recall notice, found out it didn't qualify for recall and was going to be charged 300 dollars to fix it. Got it sent back, but... still haven't got it back, 4 years later... Still, had some good memories with it, I guess.

@Northern206 It probably broke due to you not taking proper care of your camcorder. That is usually the case for some people who break their camcorders. My family has had this camcorder since 2003 and it's still working perfectly. Either that, or it just got old I guess.

I have one just like this. Are you able to use it as a web cam? If so how ? I have the disk that came with it. I do not have the usb cable. I will be getting it. I would like to use it for web cam. Please help!

@NailzandSparklez If you want to use it as a YouTube webcam, there is a way. You can watch vwestlife's video on How to use a DV camcorder as a YouTube webcam. Hope that will help!
