Travel through time known and unheard of in this extraordinary play by Marcus Gardley, a leading up-and-coming playwright and new faculty member in the UMass Amherst Theater Department. Set against a mystical and mythical backdrop of the Civil War, this poetic epic weaves together the stories of a family torn apart, the arrival of a stranger, and a delightful encounter with an imaginary Jesus who drinks soda and beatboxes. Haunting in its imagery, ". . . and Jesus Moonwalks on the Mississippi" is at once humorous and deeply poignant. The play runs April 30-May 9 at the Curtain Theater at UMass Amherst.
