Artists working on the new "Baltimural" at on Baltimore Avenue between 47th and 48th Streets in Philadelphia. This mural is replacing a piece that was there for several years. There's a lot of things that I like about the new piece, though it doesn't have the visual impact or imagination of the first mural. There are a couple of things about the picture that makes it very special though. There are portraits of beloved area residents, living and dead. For me it's especially good to see the late proprietor of the Dahlak restaurant, Solomon Amare, in the center of the picture. Also, the picture includes a section of the original mural in its design. Bravo! I wish this had been done at some other sites in the city where old murals have been painted over. They may not have been special to artists, and may not have been "good art" but I definitely miss some of them.
Thanks go out to all involved for keeping our city beautiful.
