A cunning co-pilot builds on a recent outburst of Gen. Savage and plans a mutiny in the air on a mission over Germany. Blackmailing a fellow flyer, his plan is to frame Savage as "unfit" to command and steer the plane to a neutral country to live out the war in comfort.
The US Air Force did NOT approve of his episode sighting a mutineer amongst the USAAF was not appropriate. This episode was indeed edgy for it's time...
If you like this series as much as I go over to 12OclockHighTV.com for the highest quality DVDs. There will never be a "studio" version.

  • Shell shock was a WWI term. By WWII, it became battle fatigue. The name has changed probably with every war from the start. More names to come, problably.

  • Savage knows how to lay down the law

  • so why did this guy crack up?

  • My father was in the 8th Air Force, flying missions out of Bury, St. Edmund's. He flew 35 missions, including a terrible 2nd raid on Schweinfurt. His squadron had 60% losses, which meant that he was the lone survivor of the six officers assigned to his hut. He felt responsible for them (he was the lead navigator), so he cracked up. It wasn't until years later that the Psychiatrists were able to label what he went through as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. It was very common to happen...

  • During WW2 I guess this was called "shell shock". Patton of course didn't believe there was such a thing...he slapped around one soldier who was crying that he couldn't take it anymore. Patton was relieved of command and told to apologize to the troops for what he did.

  • This was a bizzare episode.....a court-martial at 20,000 feet? Why not? Savage was the convening authority and sole judge! (and executioner)

  • Yosarian....Yosarian...Is it the kid? What? is it the kid? What kid?

  • John hoyt had 3 arms in that ,he played the same part in the legend of pocahantas on the one hand he is telling people the indians are going to slautter people on the other he is selling muskets to the indians [that movie was on uhf around the time of the disney pocahantas.[barney philips played a doctor on the mission impossible american cancer society promo] .

  • And Barney Phillips, the actor who played Doc Kaiser...he's in the TZ classic "Will the Real Martian Please Stand Up?".

  • Might be Charles Larson, who worked as an Associate Producer on the first season of TOH and later served as the producer of the first four FBI seasons. There are some great stories in Jon's book about The FBI and what the producers could and couldn't do.
