This sea clock was inspired by John Harrison, who won the Board of Longitude Prize in the 18th century for a clock that could accurately tell the time at sea and hence establish as ship's longitude. The original clock took six years to build and was completed in 1735. This Meccano replica, designed by Michael Adler, features the linked balance arms and the 'grasshopper' escapement.

  • I built a Meccano grandfathers clock 60 years ago. See page 81 of the Meccano Magazine February 1952. I won £3.15 in their competition, which was quite a lot of money for a school boy then. I still have that set and also my Hornby trains.
