This is a demonstration of a very inexpensive and easy to use metal detector with very few electonic parts. The core of the detetcor uses a programmed chip called the MIG chip. The MIG chip includes the analog functionaility required to enable a metal detector to work. An additional chip, called the BLUE chip, is useful for configuration purposes. Both chips contain customised software.
Both the MIG and BLUE chips can have their software upgraded from a PC with suitable equipment when improvements become availalable.
The MIG chip and BLUE chips are on sale right now from http://www.zgus.com.
The video also demonstrates some interesting research and devlopment results that are not included in the current version of the MIG and BLUE chips for sale (such as anti noise control) but may become included in future version and may be available as upgrades in the future.
It is time metal detectors took advantage of the phenomenal advances in electronics and dramatic reductions in prices instead of relying on endlessly recyced 1970s designs.
The MIG chip enables the world's lowest parts count metal detectors to be built that can also distinguish between ferrous and non-ferrous metal.
