Every time I give Hillary Clinton the benefit of the doubt - like here, or when I fell for her all teary-eyed in a New Hampshire diner - I wind up feeling like Charlie Brown to her Lucy. So here we go again: I really took her speech the other night to mean that she was throwing her full support behind her party's nominee, whose programs are all but indistinguishable from her own. But, silly me, here she is, responding to McCain's choice of a female running mate by communicating to her supporters that it's a good thing somebody values women. After McCain announced that he was running alongside Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, Clinton's office released this short but shit-stirring statement:
"We should all be proud of Governor Sarah Palin's historic nomination, and I congratulate her and Senator McCain. While their policies would take America in the wrong direction, Governor Palin will add an important new voice to the debate."

Couldn't leave it alone, could you? All McCain needs is just a few Hillary Holdouts, right? And what better way to pave the road to their defection than with more mixed messages and now-you-see-it, now-you-don't support for Barack Obama. Which reminds us why he couldn't possibly have put you on the ticket. But also raises the question: Does Lucy know she's never going to let Charlie Brown kick the football? Or does she try to do the right thing - for one thing, because who wants to be known as the mean girl? - and then surprise even herself when she can't quite resist making a fool of him again? Doesn't matter, I guess, in Hillary's case, because we've shown a limitless willingness to see her not as malign but as conflicted. So that when she does what she does again, we really only get what we deserve.

  • McCain lacks experience??? lol wow, this woman is a nutjob.

  • HILLARY 2012!!!!

  • Muhaahaha and all of us would do things differently do you suppose? Haha if I had that much power I would lie constantly to the incompetent and gullible american public. And when people like you question me....I would have you shot and your family worked to death in a slave labor camp.

  • Oh yeah. As for Debbie Wasserman Shultz, I bet Sarah Palin -- if John McCain had (not a fat chance of it) died in office -- she would not have screwed up as badly as Sec. of State Hillary Clinton and the Obama administration have been. Gift gaffes, love letters to the mullahs, turning a blind eye to North Korea's nuclear program, an empty protocol office and hugging the Queen / bowing to a tinpot dictator to show for it.

Not only could Sarah Palin have not done worse, but she never would.

  • By treasury, I mean the actual office where Geithner can't seem to find anyone who will work with him. But America has had its coffers emptied, as well.

As for the question about SCOTUS decisions, Palin was asked which two she disagreed with the most. Sam Nunn wrote those questions, knowing they would be pounced on if they contradicted McCain's position.

Hopefully, if Palin is on a national ticket again, she will be prepped better for interviews than she was by the McCain campaign. We'll see.

  • It's so funny reading these comments from Obama voters now that he's in office. Remember when he said he'd go through spending bills line by line? When he said he had a plan for the economic crisis? That he'd create jobs? Ha! Obama has spent trillions of dollars on Democratic party giveaways that have nothing to do with job growth or the economy. He has burdened future generations with debt. Anyone could look at his record and tell he was corrupt, an amateur, and a liar. Treasury is still empty.

  • This woman is insulting to believe that everyone thinks the same way that she does. Half of the women in America are pro life.

  • I dont see any part of her political career that shes strong, shes just being used, and if I was her, I would tell Mccain , am not ur puppet, but money talks, and shes just looking at the money, this is a person who right now more than ever her family needs her especially her 2 children, 1 sick and the other to have a baby, if her priorty is politics 1st, she has no value whatsoever, u can always go again for that nomination but not now, shes got too much baggage

  • some people are just afraid of a strong woman

  • John McCain has proven he will do anything to win this election, and that he does not give a dam about our future if he should die in office. This bitch is a secessionist and as far as I am concerned a traitor. I am a veteran, and I am ashamed of this betrayal by a man I used to respect, and he uses this bitch to do his dirty work.
