  • this video is wrong... it should only be 2^2 without deducting 2 because it's a network not a host

  • @Lexhound08 Thanks for bringing that up. NOW the rule is it is OK to use the all-ONES and all-ZEROES networks. Everyone PLEASE remember that. When the video was made Cisco recommended NOT using them, although you COULD. The Tests have changed. Today the first network would be network "0" not "32". When the video was made, selecting "0" on a CCNA test would have resulted in an incorrect answer. AGAIN: TODAY, the first useable sub-network in this problem would be ZERO using 2 bits

  • You only need to borrow 2 bits giving you addresses of 0, 64, 128, 192.

You only have to -2 when you are working with hosts - For the broadcast and the network address. It doesnt come into play when working with subnets.

  • @manchhester When the video was made, Cisco's recommended procedure was not to use the all-ones or all-zeroes networks. I mention in the video that it can be done and would be discussed later. This recommendation caused some confusion later during a transition time to the recommendation that all-zeroes and all-ones should be used. Some CCNA certification questions referred to "the first available network" when it was not clear which standard should be used. Was it the "0" network or the "32"
