  • I hate people who get into "comment fights" about why their favorite soprano sounded so much better singing this aria. The bottom line is I would kill to be able to sing like that and I applaud her for having such amazing talent.

  • why would anyone with a developed sense of respect for other artists get on the internet and ridicule and talk bad about other artists? That woman delivered a beautiful aria and some people are so busy arguing about this and that, they miss the opportunity to be still and listen and look and feel. I feel sorry for people who cant allow the body to sense without allowing the ego or brain to run rampant

  • @4114224 It's what Sutherland said abt. Callas after the huge weight loss: her thinner body could no longer support the sound she had been used to making when she was so heavy.

  • those low notes are juicy

  • I've always greatly respected Deborah Voigt, because while she is not what I would call an "inspired" artist, she was always sincere and extremely serious about her vocal health. However, I heard her in Ballo after losing the weight, and although many say the weight loss has nothing to do with how she is singing now, I definitely heard a major difference. Before, there was always a plushness and clarity to the voice production with secure intonation. All that is gone now, and she sounds old.

  • I just can't understand most of the criticisms. Voigt had a powerful dramatic sop voice, perfect for this aria. Her lower register was superior to Callas's. The transitions requiring changes in emotion and pitch, however, are not as impressive. Callas was a Goddess at those. Nonetheless when Voight sings those intense passages, she owns me!

  • i can attest, @triptoheaveandho, yours is the only response worth anything - i too dont care what her breasts look like (or how many typos you've made): to hear this & NOT feel your heart breaking or tears streaming down your face is to be deaf to this divinity extraordinaire's searing "Suicidio!"... Oh DV you have reached in & ripped out my heart - i've been smitten by an angel & transported to a plane of sheer enrapture, and will never be the same again...

  • Being a dramatic soprano, I have sung this aria with success. I know every avenue of it backwards and forwards. It is by no means a voice killer. It is a great piece of musical composition that when sung by the right individual, is sung with the greatest of ease. You simply have to know what you are doing. What a beautiful piece of operatic work!
