Here's a strange fraudulent claim about the Kingsmen version. People constantly credit them with inventing the "Da-da-da, da-da, da-da-da, da-da" and that the original version was slightly different.
Listen to that bass singer. The riff is here. All The Kingsmen did was make the song into a hilarious joke. Nothing wrong with jokes, just don't attribute ingenuity to the wrong source.

I knew there was an original because when I was 10 years old I used to hear this one on the radio in my older cousin's car radio. African-Americans then didn't get much airplay time with their records usually on smaller radio stations.
