In this video we cover the things one of our staffer/racers did to prep his Yamaha R-6. This is Part 1 of a multi-part series. Think of this as an overview to get you started and give you some ideas for your own project.

We cover the following in this video:
Race bodywork - Sharkskinz and Armour Bodies
Clip ons and levers - Apex Clip Ons and GP Tech Levers
Steering Damper - Pit Bull
Quickturn throttle - Active, Yoyodyne and Motion Pro
Fuel/Ignition control and Quick shifter - Dynojet
Lightweight Spectrum Battery
Tank grip pads - Stompgrip
Rearsets - Graves

The concept here is to give you an idea of what we have done to prepare our bikes for the track. There is a ton to cover and it took three videos to do this on Eddie's R6.

Part 2 covers safety wire and cooling system prep.

Part 3 covers suspension, exhaust, chain/sprockets and brakes.

  • I have the graves rear sets on my bike - awesome rear sets. very solid feeling and precise compared to the stockers.

  • @yammieR12003 Agreed, very hard to beat.

  • looks nice how much would the bike and all the upgrades cost please thanks

  • @asramsy1 somehwere around 22k or so

  • hey brian, what are your thought on a beginner starting on a 600cc or even a 1000cc bike?

  • @smooglepoot A 1000 is a lot of bike that can get you into trouble real fast. A modern 600 has more power than most riders will ever fully use. In a perfect world a good way to start would be more like a Ninja 250/650 or a SV650.

  • @afletra That's an R6, no Honda engine bits involved. In all probability it's a sponsor decal, I've never seen Eddie run a Honda.

  • @salsasnacker But I'm sure that engine is R6's engine, not CBR, or Gixxer, or Ninja. Just wonder...

  • @afletra This had me stumped too, however SOME race organizations require every team and rider to use the same engine and perhaps he races in one that uses exclusively Honda engines yet the chassis choice is up to the team. Somewhat like Moto2, just a possibility. Nice race setup though!

Agreed. Even IF a newbie manages not to kill themselves on a I4 600CC sport bike, they will have a whole host of bad habits along the way. These race replicas will have new rider's more focused on staying alive and not scratching their pretty bike instead of building up a solid foundation of fundamentals. Buy a beginner friendly bike, USED, ride it for a season or more, and sell it for about what you paid for it when the summer riding season comes around.

  • @Sportbiketrackgear I'm a noobie, and I wonder why the fairing of that R6 have a "HONDA East Racing" painted on it?

I also found the pics of R6 that have a simliar looks like your R6 in this video, and the bike have the same paint too. Isn't R6 is Yamaha? Why the paint on it's fairing is Honda? I just wonder, I hope someone gonna tell me why, thx :)
