On the River Common in Wilkes-Barre this morning, people were lined up to see the rising Susquehanna for themselves.

These are images from River Street this morning around 10:30 a.m. The water is feet away from the Market Street Bridge, which was closed last night.

The River Common is completely covered by flood water.

Some Wilkes University students are either being evacuated or are traveling to safer ground with family.

From the Pierce Street Bridge, looking toward the West Side of the River, the walkways heading toward Kirby Park are completely flooded and trees are halfway underwater.

Here is view from The pierce Street Bridge looking toward Wilkes-Barre and the Courthouse.

Two men examine the flood waters as it continues to rise.

This video is from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 08, 2011 from the rising flood waters. Flood waters continue to rise and are expected to crest at 40.9 feet anywhere from Thursday 8 p.m. to Friday at 2 a.m. People are advised to leave low-lying areas by 4 p.m. today. Bring belongings because evacuated people will not be allowed back into their homes for 72 hours.
