If one person writes a book where spider-man doesn't get what is going on when he gets his powers, and another guy writes a book about spider-man where he knows exactly how to use them from the start, these are 2 different versions, and it's not about harmonizing them - it's about recognizing that they are simply two different stories.
The problem for Christians is that they are faced with a canon that has "the truth". This is nonsense. It's different stories.

Witness 1: "He stayed calm until the end and said he is ready to die"
Witness 2: "He was screaming like a pig, asked for mercy and peed his pants"

However, if you differed in the details of "where", "when", "who" etc, then yes, it is contradictory, not just a different version.
If you explained to a child you met your wife in high school, and she says college, one of you is wrong. You're not giving two different accounts, you're giving two dichotomous accounts.
Luke says Jesus was born in one year, Matthew says another, 10 years apart from Luke.
That's not a difference, it's a contradiction.

Some say that oral tradition was common back then not written. They say they were very careful to repeat the stories in detail that is how we can trust the gospels. This make me wonder if it is so trust worth. The Contradiction contradics what they just said about oral tradition not written. And if we mesh the 2 gospels together do that make a new gospel? I do understand your point on this but these issues linger in my mind. Can you help me sort them out?

That applies when you have 4 stories backing up eachother, what u have with the bible 4 gospels 4 stories diff to eachother, 1 says Jesus was wrapped in red the other purple, and all 4 disacgree contradict with eachother on the events that took place in resurection, futhermore bible says Jesus deciples all fled in the garden of gatheminy so whos there at his crucifixtion and resurection, whats the authority of the bible, its all unknown!

Jesus asks why god has foresaken him in Mark at the time of his death. In Luke, he commends his spirit to God and has a conversation with the robbers while on the cross. In Mark he is silent until the end, in Luke he is chatty all the way through This is a contradiction.

@jacksawild - This is not a contradiction. Matthew, Mark & Luke all give the details that they thought were important to share. All of these events happened, they just didn't all share everything. When you listen to eyewitness accounts of any event, people remember different things. - J A Show Staff
